Calgary was lotsa fun!! Best bits...well it all was a blast, I even went clubbing with Eve and to the Calgary Zoo *kyaa Vanity Fair is a really good movie...it's not perfect, but it is very yummy! Speaking of tasty, Robert Pattinson, who is going to play Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter 4, Goblet of Fire, was in the alternate ending as an older version of Rawdy. He was exquisite! Throughout the movie I also fell in love with Jonathan Rhys Meyers and James Purefoy and gained renewed admiration for Gabriel Byrne and Reese Witherspoon. Everyone in that film is a jerk though, but that is more realistic than most films out there.
Check this out...it's from my Psych assignment:
Around the time our class was going through intelligence, I happened to be reading a book called One Door Away from Heaven by Dean Koontz. Although I am not an avid follower of Koontzs work, I picked up his book at a library book sale. At almost the same time I was introduced to Henry Goddards negative eugenics in lecture and the more modern theory of utilitarian bioethics in the novel. As put by Koontz, utilitarian bioethics is a philosophy [that] embodies the antihuman essence of fascism, expresses the contempt for individual freedom and for the disabled and the frail that has in the past marked every form of totalitarianism.(One Door Away from Heaven: 609) Succinctly put, Utilitarian Bioethics is a very controversial branch of Utilitarian ethics that espouses directing medical resources where they will contribute most to the sum of the number of happy people in the world." (source) This may sound like a reasonable proposition, but I find the fault in the very literal way these bioethicists employ their maxim. As with Goddard, these theorists believe handicapped individuals to be a drain on the overall happiness and success of society. Utilitarian bioethics doesnt stop there but also includes both physically and mentally handicapped persons, terminally ill persons, suicide attempt patients and so on. All are said to needlessly diminish a communities resources, thereby reducing the happiness of the community. Some prominent utilitarian bioethicists, for example Dr. Peter Singer of Princeton University, believe that only persons should have the right to live. According to Singer, anyone who is cognitively disabled is not a person.(source) While going through the theory of negative eugenics, many students laughed away such an outdated mode of thinking, myself included. However, it appears that Goddards philosophies are far from dead. Utilitarian Bioethics has updated itself from Goddards version with a newer, user-friendly face, but in truth is even more deadly than before.
